5 Tips For Success | LED Lighting For Parking Garages
LED Lighting Saves Money
The LED lamps that are used in our fixtures can directly replace older, higher wattage lighting technologies while providing a rated life of 100,000+ hours. That means you save money on reduced electrical consumption as well as drastically reduced replacement costs.
Electrical Consumption:
LED lamps use far less energy to light the same area as the older metal halide and high-pressure sodium technologies. This translates into cost savings of 40% or more, as seen in the chart below.
Maintenance Costs:
LED lamps have a rated life of 100,000 hours, which translates into more than 11 years of 24-hour light from a single lamp. No other technology can match LED for lamp life. Not only does this reduce the direct cost of the replacement lamps, but also the time and money used for labor to perform the replacements, as well as the cost of recycling. Average replacement projects save 80% or more in maintenance costs.
LED Lighting Reduces Ecological Impact
The LED lamps that are used in our fixtures can directly replace older, higher wattage lighting technologies while providing a rated life of 100,000. That means you save money on reduced electrical consumption as well as drastically reduced replacement costs.
Carbon Dioxide:
In 2008, the United States average emission rate was 1.33 pounds of carbon dioxide produced for every kWh of electricity consumed.* The chart below shows how much carbon can be reduced by using LED technology.
Mercury:
Along with carbon dioxide, mercury is emitted with every kWh consumed. Additionally, since most industrial lamps contain mercury, some is released into the environment if not properly recycled. The statistic used by the USGBC in their LEED criteria picograms of mercury per mean lumen-hour. This measurement takes into account the brightness of the lamp and its rated life. A rating of below 90 earns LEED credit.
LED Lighting Provide Better Light
Color Rendering Index (CRI) CRI is a measurement that determines how accurately light reflects the actual colors of the object it is illuminating. On a scale from 1 – 100, with 100 being the highest, LED lights score 80 – 85. MH scores 65 while HPS scores 21.
Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) CCT is measured in degrees Kelvin and measures the brightness of the source light, with 5000K being equal to daylight, which is the most widely used LED color temperature. This accounts for the white light that is seen with LED lamps as opposed to the yellow of high-pressure sodium.
LED Lighting Improves Safety and Decreases Liability
More light and better light color from LED lamps increases the safety of your area, but as a business it does more. Increased lighting reduces risk of injury and crime, therefore helping to prevent lawsuits. While it is not entirely pleasant to think about, owners must take into account their bottom line.
LED lighting accurately portrays what is being lit With a high CRI/CCT, LED allows the human eye to see colors accurately. This is a problem with HPS and MH lighting. For example, since HPS gives off a yellow tint, a blue car could appear green to both human eyes and to video cameras. There, if something criminal should occur in the lit area, the video camera will not accurately portray the colors and descriptions that would be necessary to obtain correct information. Also, while the actual biological reactions are still being researched, multiple studies have shown that the human eye reacts more quickly and with greater detail when the source light has a high CRI and CCT, both of which LED lamps provide.
Fewer failure rates means more light more of the time Another benefit of having a 10x longer lifespan is that the area that is being lit has a higher probably of being lit. Another way of stating that is there is a much lower probably that an area will go unlit due to a blown bulb before maintenance replaces it. This lower probably of unlit areas means fewer darker areas, translating to a constantly lit and safe area.
LED Lights Save Money Without Upfront Costs
Our lease option allows customers to have new LED lights installed without any upfront costs. Instead, a reasonable monthly payment is made over 5 years. In most cases, the monthly payment is less than the money saved from switching to LED thus making you money in the process.
